The billions of dollars of American aid flowing into Afghanistan every year may be inadvertently fueling the insurgency and the corruption rampant within the government and financial sectors, according to a new report. The audit by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction concluded that lack of oversight or control of where money is disbursed has left vast sums of U.S. aid “vulnerable to fraud or diversion to insurgents.”
Public support for the war has been waning primarily due to doubts about the failed military strategy, but the fact that taxpayer money is counterproductive to the war aims should bring added criticism. Indeed, the report details several instances where the Karzai government deliberately obstructed anti-corruption efforts by U.S. agencies and refused to prosecute Afghan criminals, despite the faithful flow of American money.
This is not the first of such reports. Last year, it was found that $3 billion in diverted U.S. aid and logistics dollars had been smuggled out of Kabul International Airport to financial safe havens or laundered to private ventures abroad. Similarly, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Democratic majority staff last month concluded that U.S. nation-building efforts were fueling corruption, distorting local economies, and did not provide sustainable results.
The U.S. effort in Afghanistan lacks a coherent military strategy, comes at a painfully high human cost, and is as full of waste and corruption as the Afghan government itself. The pretense, forced upon the Afghan people for the last decade, that America knows best how to build a sustainable, legitimate nation consistent with the rule of law is simply not borne out by these revelations.
The insurgents are the american forces
So obviously the aid is designed to fuel it
They seriously didn't think that things had gotten better since the first such report of "diverted aid" and corruption, did they? This has been going on since 2003…You'd think they would stop the silly investigations and just pay attention. You know how to stop the corruption? Get the hell out of the rat hole and bring the troops home…Now!! What d-heads.
The only benificiaries are the americans and the Afghans get nothing.
If you withstart illegal, then every thing will be illegal.
American aid is to decieve the public and amerivcans take back with modified methods. They are connected with advisers who live in luxuries which they can,t get in america.
Truth is that americans are best deciever in the world in the name of aid. If we want cash will get no cash. Military aid does,t have effect on public and the money is waisted and the nation had to pay.
Afghan peoples are dieing of hunger, illegal killings, environmental catastrophe due to these uranium pleted weapos etc.
We need no aid and the only we wish a graveyard for ameroicans for illegal killings.
Hmmm…not the Americans. The average American loses because his tax dollars are being thrown into the warmongering blackhole. The only ones who benefit from these are the MIC barons and the Congresswhores they pay off to continue the bloodshed for bucks program going.
Maybe we should throw more money at this problem…yea, that's it!

Ya Think? Still trying to learn where the pallets of $ went to in Iraq And who was responsible?
We know who was responsible. Start with Dubya and work down. The problem is that America no longer has a justice system that would investigate and prosecute such thefts. So, the people responsible are protected. If you want to change that, elect a whole new Congress in 2012. Do that by not voting for candidates with money. They are the bought ones. The honest candidates are the broke ones.
And to back the claim that the US is being defeated militarily I would add the fact that twelve US soldiers have died in Afghanistan in just five days from Thursday, July 14 through Monday, July 18, 2011.
US aid may be fueling Afghan insurgency? May be? What in the world gave that one away? And only a decade or two into it. Sheesh!
Well. Thats what the U.S. Government gets in trying to just hand out money to build governments and other things. I do not like my money being taken away from me and sent to build governments and etc. I do not consent to it. But there isnt much I can do in stop paying taxes unless a whole lot more people stop paying taxes here in the U.S., One person or 100 isnt going to stop this. They will just send us to jail and thats the end of it. It really would take a whole region of the U.S. or possibly the whole country to stop them from taking our money and giving it to these people. I dont agree with the U.S. Government giving money to do what it is doing in Afghanistan or anywhere in the world to fuel war. But I also dont agree with them simply taking our money and using it the U.S. without our consent. I dont know to many people who would really consent to this. Only reason they are doing it now is by fearmongering.
From reading the news, you'd think the USA has never fought a guerrilla war before. Yet, that's all we've done since 1960 and Kennedy's counter-insurgency strategies.
Of course our aid is fueling the insurgency. And a fair number of the people we 'train' are really insurgents. And a fair number of the weapons we give the Afghans will end up with the insurgency. This is the nature of a guerrilla war.
They say generals always learn to fight the last war. You'd think since Vietnam and since we've been fighting this one for 10 years that we might have learned a little bit. But apparently no.
The war in Afghanistan, cant be won ever. End of the story.
But think of it from a Lockheed/Al Qaeda perspective! If it were possible to run out of enemy, it's hardly worth doing, is it?
